The Acoustic Guitar Cabinet Project
The Final Build
Changes to Prototype
1. The prototype worked well (in Montreal) from Spring to Fall. However, during the Winter the humidity dropped, so I sealed all the joins with clear Gorila Tape. The cabinet became too efficient raising the humidity level above 55%. As a result, I had to leave one of the doors ajar.
On the final build, a venting system needs to be added, which can be adjusted.
Solution?
The venting system could be just a simple a sliding door with marks indicating summer and winter.
2. The Ikea masonite backpanel began to warp.
Solution?
- Replace the masonite backpanel with tongue and groove aromatic cedar for the look and woody smell.
3.
Why I've decided to not use a commercial humidifier.
Feb 28, 2020 Update:
I've recently received notes and suggestions from a few luthiers and Godin Guitars.
After more research... I plan to rewrite this site in early March.
